The dark side of the brick

New sets released today - and on order.  But in the meantime, I've taken delivery of a load more plastic boxes to store all my deconstructed parts in and am continuing with the grand deconstruct: after 6 months though, I'm still only 31% of the way through the collection!  Hmm Yesterday, I started on my box of cube dudes and Brickheadz.  The cube dudes are clearly a forerunner of the brick head, sharing quite a few design features.  The dudes are, however, based on a 3x3 plan and are pretty fragile whereas the the 'headz are 4x4, plus generally two plates worth of detailing around the head.  And are much much more sturdy. At the time of writing, there are I think 18 Brickheadz out there with a 19th (Ahsoka Tano) to be released soon: 41485: Finn 41486: Captain Phasma 41489: Rey and Kylo Ren (also released as singles) 41498: Boba Fett and Han Solo in carbonite (I own a mint version of this set and it's one of the very few I will never build to retain its value) 41...

Earlier in the week, I did a quick build of this MOC of Ahsoka Tano by Tanu Brick.  Nicely done and the design quality could easily be genuine Lego.  I had to make a couple of part substitutions but I don't think they're very obvious.

I forgot to post about this build a week or so ago... while I reported back in Jan that I'd built up all the Brickheadz barring the very limited Boba Fett and Han Solo in carbonite, I then discovered that I had the standalone Boba Fett ( 41629 ) hiding at the back of my pile of unbuilt sets. I generally like the Brickheadz sets - they're quick to build but satisfying and also quirky.  Apart from the fact that I struggled to tell the dark green and dark red apart in the light I have to build by and seemed to have a spare sand green piece where I was expecting a LBG, this was a fine build.  Some nice printed pieces too, which I always like.

This is going to be the final build for a week or so - my next job is to pick the parts for the 2007 UCS Falcon, along with the UCS B-wing and 4-5 other sets (I've found it's most efficient to dump all the parts into a long list in a spreadsheet and then pick for multiple sets at once... it minimises the number of times I go back into each box.  So I do about 1,000 individual part picks over about a week and then build for a week... and then reward myself with a couple of new builds.  Rinse and repeat.  Just in case you're wondering why I'm following this, frankly, insane regime, I set out some of the reasons here but forgot to say that I'm also aiming to have all of the Lego Star Wars sets built at once - I reckon I'll get there by about May 2021 which gives me a few months to buy the last 30 or so sets I don't own).   Anyway, on to the review... 75317 THE Mandalorian & THE Child (capitalisation apparently important in indicating singularity) is nearl...
